eBooks
eBooks: We love ’em. B10 Mediaworx provides e-book formatting services to small presses, indie authors, and self-publishing authors, particularly traditionally published midlist authors who have had their rights reverted back to them. Our goal is to make ebooks as pretty as they can possibly be within the constraints of the devices that will read them. We do fiction and nonfiction of all types. There are very few things we cannot format, but if we can’t, we’ll tell you.
As of 2011-05-31, our turnaround time for new clients is generally 4 weeks.
Rates as of 2011-05-31:
Base prices for a relatively clean file, which include linked table of contents and embedded cover image you provide. When we receive a file(s), we assume that it is in its final form and that we have all the materials we need to complete the assignment.
- Kindle/MOBI/PRC $150
- EPUB for Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble PubIt!, and Kobo $150
- SmashWords $80 with linked table of contents; $60 without (please note: because of our schedule, prices have risen since SmashWords’s preferred vendor list was published).
In addition, we can create several more obscure formats, such as LIT, LRF, and PDB.
Add-ons:
- Usable “clean” document extraction from a PDF ($25). The price goes up from there, especially if anything has to be retyped. For a document that is too “messy,” we will return it with a request that it be proofread or, if you desire we proofread it, we will send a quote for that service.
- Table of contents with more than 30 links (50c per link)
- Footnotes converted to endnotes and reciprocally linked ($25 for conversion + 1.00 per reciprocal link)
- Images (2.50 [extractable image] to 3.50 [screen-shot image] each)
- Rush charge ($250+ surcharge for a 24-hour turnaround time)
- Indices will be removed. Every device has a search feature, which makes an index unnecessary.
- For edits that are not formatting errors, and to insert additional materials: $150/hour.

Please note: We do not use Calibre or other automated software to crunch out files haphazardly or files that are unnecessarily bloated (costing you more in Amazon fees). We also do not use KindleGen to convert an EPUB file to a Kindle file. (Trust us, ebook buyers can tell.) We mark up XHTML files by hand and then use the appropriate software to turn them into lean and clean Kindle and EPUB files. In

Bestselling author Anne Frasier/Theresa Weir had this to say about our services:
And here is where I really want to mention B10 Mediaworx. In the center of this tangle emerged someone who really delivered, who did exactly what she said she would do. I did not want to offer some slapped together mess, and I wanted to be certain Pale Immortal was formatted correctly. It looks fantastic!!! Oddly enough, I was unable to view it in all of it’s glory (complete with Belfry Press logo) until I uploaded to Kindle and hit preview… I have to also say that even though I don’t have a Kindle, the material looks quite nice on Stanza desktop.
Kenny Gibbs, owner of Happy Hour Integrated Communication Services had this to say:
Working with you makes me want to drum up ePub biz just so I can work with a good vendor!
From author Jim Riley:
As an author new to the ebook trade I have encountered varying degrees of professionalism and competence in an admittedly difficult field. So much is changing, and so quickly. And yet one person stands out so dramatically in knowledge, personal care, helpfulness, and skill that I feel I must say something. This is meant as unqualified praise for and a hearty recommendation of the work of Elizabeth Beeton. She helped me prepare my book, Enlightenment, for Smashwords and has advised on other matters as well. She has always had time for me even when I wondered if I were not becoming a pest. Elizabeth is the first person I will turn to in the future with any work related to publishing.
From author Todd Keisling:
B10 Mediaworx took my novel and created a pristine digital edition from the original text. They are professional, their rates are competitive, and they know their trade. I can’t recommend their services enough.
